Real Soap vs Synthetic Body Wash
Real Soap. No Synthetic Detergents. Built the Way It Should Be.
Most modern body wash isn’t technically soap. It’s a synthetic detergent formula suspended in plastic.
Our 5oz bars are made the traditional way — using cold-process saponified plant oils, naturally retained glycerin, and responsibly sourced ingredients. No synthetic detergents. No plastic bottles. No shortcuts.
What Is Real Soap?
Real soap is created when oils are combined with lye in a process called saponification. The result is a solid cleansing bar made from oils — not laboratory-created surfactants.
Our bars are crafted using:
- Cold-process saponified plant oils
- Sustainable Palm Done Right® certified palm oil
- Fair Trade organic shea butter
- Organic olive oil and sunflower oil
- Essential oils and cosmetic-grade fragrances

Bar Soap vs Body Wash
| Feature | Our 5oz Bar Soap | Typical Liquid Body Wash |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Cleanser | Saponified plant oils | Synthetic detergents (SLS, SLES, etc.) |
| Packaging | Plastic-free solid bar | Single-use plastic bottle |
| Water Content | Concentrated | Primarily water-based |
| Glycerin | Naturally retained | Often removed during manufacturing |
| Longevity | Lasts weeks with proper drying | Requires frequent repurchase |
Why Synthetic Detergents Are Not Soap
Many “cleansing bars” and body washes are not technically soap.
They are made with synthetic surfactants such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) or sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). These ingredients are engineered to create heavy foam and long shelf stability.
While widely used in mass-market products, synthetic detergents are chemically different from traditional soap made through saponification.
Real soap is made from oils. Synthetic cleansers are petroleum-derived surfactants.
We choose traditional soapmaking methods because they are simple, proven, and require fewer synthetic inputs.
Plastic-Free by Design
Each 5oz bar replaces roughly three standard 12oz liquid body wash bottles over time.*
No pumps. No shrink wrap. No landfill-bound plastic.
Solid soap travels better, lasts longer, and eliminates unnecessary packaging waste.
*Based on average usage comparisons between a 5oz solid bar and standard liquid body wash consumption.
Responsibly Sourced Sustainable Palm Oil
Palm oil can be destructive when irresponsibly sourced.
We use only Sustainable Palm Done Right® certified palm oil, which is:
- Deforestation-free
- Fair Trade certified
- Traceable to smallholder farms
- Independently verified
Responsibly sourced palm oil creates a harder, longer-lasting bar — reducing waste while maintaining performance.

Cold-Process Soap & Naturally Retained Glycerin
Industrial soap manufacturing often removes glycerin to sell separately for cosmetic applications.
Cold-process soap retains naturally occurring glycerin in the bar, helping maintain a balanced cleanse without excessive stripping.
Built to Last
A properly cured 5oz bar can last weeks when allowed to dry between uses.
Our Cedar Soap Holder and Soap Sock are designed to:
- Improve drainage
- Extend bar life
- Reduce waste
- Maximize value
Made in the USA
Our soaps are crafted by U.S.-based artisan partners using small-batch cold-process methods.
Shorter supply chains. Higher quality control. No overseas mass production.
